MISSION TO THE MOON

Continuing the adventures of Jim Stanley who assisted in the building of the first space station in Step to the Stars (1954, p.586) this sees humanity reach the Moon. As in the last book there, is still the cold war between the Western powers, self appointed guardians of world security, and the Combine, the questionable eastern bloc of nations. But as operations progress and as Jim and his co-workers get to know observers from the Combine a common bond is happily established so that the promise of a new future brightens the death of the first man who, through an attempted rescue, sacrifices himself to claim the Moon for humanity.
