PAKISTAN, The Heart of Asia

A collection, in book form, of the speeches Liaquat Ali Kahn, Premier of Pakistan, made during his May, 1950 trip through the United States, as well as some related addresses by Pres. Truman, Vice President Barkley, Gen. Eisenhower, on the occasion when Columbia awarded the Premier an honorary L.L.D., etc. Insofar as is possible in speeches of this type, the Premier presents a concise and clear picture of his very young nation, its difficult geographic situation and division, the tremendous economic and social problems it has in large part successfully overcome since the d ark days of 1947, and its outlook to what is hoped a bright future. As a means of acquainting the American public with a still virtually unknown but highly significant part of the world, these talks are valuable and rewarding reading. They also serve to introduce a man of considerable culture who is at present an important world leader.
