THE BIG FISHERMAN

For those who liked The Robe, this is a natural. Holding more closely to the scene of the gospel story than The Robe, which included Rome and Athens in its background, The Big Fisherman is concentrated almost wholly in Palestine and Arabia, with Simon-called Peter- as the central character, and the fictional plot built around the romance of a cast- off daughter of Antipas (called Herod in the Bible), and her Arabian lover. Even Fara's life becomes interwoven with that of Simon- and of Jesus- as she identifies herself with the movement. The years of Jesus' ministry form the main part of the book; the last part traces sketchily the spread of Christianity, up to the death of Peter.
