If the author can illustrate as well as she can write, so that the book is externally as appealing as the text, this is bound to be a favorite for a long time. Mr. Candypaws, a rabbit, is kidnapped and held for an enormous nut ransom. His poor wife and all her children are desperate because they do not know how to procure the necessary amount. Fortunately the other small woods animals decide to help and organize a marvelous Insect Zoo with side-shows, charging nuts for admission. The gaiety of the songs, the Butterfly , . Spinelli the spider fortune-teller, the bear caterpillar, the fierce stag-hestle, the honey flip refreshments are all highly successful. Would that we could take our children to such a show. The excitement becomes intense when the wicked kidnapper Rat comes to look around. He is skillfully lured and trapped, forced to confess and release his prisoner, so that all is happy again in Farn Wood. Should be a joy to read aloud.
