Miss Bowers bowers are undoubtedly pleasant and cheery since most of the decorating tips center on function and comfort. Expect no fancy fandangoes here, but generally sane and-let's call a space a space-rather familiar advice. Essentially an elementary guide for room planning, this stresses not only comfort but the basics of color, fabric, and furniture selection for the proper handling of space and eye-catching effects. There is really not much to fault here, but not much to excite one either, since the many general statements offer inspiration but not the abundance of specific tricks and spirit-lifting arrangements that the decorating buffs delight in. Perhaps the photos and sketches-which we have not seen-will supply the lack, but this is a compendium of, rather than a leap up from, the soothing material proffered so generously in the women's mags.
