IN AFRICA

In Africa ""You will see all sorts of houses,"" animals, people, climates and customs, and only the briefest captions are necessary to illuminate these 91 photographs from the continent's five principal geographical regions. Some of the pictures, like those three closeups of an unabashedly homely camel, are artistically excellent, and most break away from the usual deadpan photo journalism to show individual faces, scenic panoramas, people at work and play, and small local customs (""When you go to school, you bring your own seat"") infused with an unusual degree of vitality. Crowded but lively, and likely to make pleasant browsing for those either too young or too impatient for the artificial stories which usually accompany such excursions.
