SNAP!

Joey the kangaroo, bored during a hot, dusty afternoon, relishes learning new games from his friends in the Australian bush. He plays hide-and-squeak with Twister, a bush mouse; lots-of-knots with Slider, a snake; pick-up-quills with Prickler, an echidna; and pass-the-mudpies with Flatso, a platypus. When Joey invites a crocodile named Sly-tooth to join in the games, Sly-tooth tricks the animals into hiding in the cave made by his open mouth. SNAP! It takes one more unusual game to get them out, and readers will be delighted by the comic turn of events. Imaginative, original torn-paper collages are reminiscent of Susan Roth's best work and add immeasurably to the exotic locale of the tale.
