WOODEN SHOES IN AMERICA
by ‧RELEASE DATE: Sept. 4, 1940
This fits into the series which includes America Begins and America Builds Homes and each title has been better than its predecessor. This new one is a picture story book of Dutch life in early colonial days in Manhattan. There are the windmills and the tulips, there is the market, there are school days and play hours, singing school and church, skating and games. Dutch children are shown taking serious part in the everyday work, such as the great spring washing. And the serious round is broken by holidays and festivals, characteristic of the people. A readable text, somewhat more than expanded captions, and charming illustrations in delft blue and line and in gay postery color. Good content material and a picture book quality too.
