A clever portrait, quiet in movement, and rather removed from general interest, in this nut, full-bodied picture of a spiritualist, neatly conceived and neatly conveyed. Emms, second child of a shoddy vaudeville family, has resented the favoritism towards her pretty elder sister. Moody, secretive, unpredictable, she plays up her ""visions"" to get attention, and becomes a medium. Her sister catches her in the act, and she stops for a time, marries and then takes it up again, preserving the line between the amaur and the professional. A closing vignette shows her a cheap fortune teller in a London basement.
