There have been other books on various phases of the moving picture industry, production, history, etc., but this study of the audiences is new. The estimated 85 million who go at least once a week, the effect of the movies on them, and their effect on the movies. Chapters on publicity, exploitation, glamour, styles in glamour, movies and fashion, movies and morals, reform, censorship, production and distribution. Then the propaganda value of the movies in art, education, music, writing. The use of the movies by the government. The movies as a direct reflection of the people's will. Hollywood is out to please the people. Fascinating material by someone who is pro-cinema but who takes the unpredictable ""boom-boom"" for what it is worth.
