THE SNOW HOUSE

This is pretty bad. Not the text so much as the pictures, which are old-school picture book type, recalling the worst sort of primers. The idea is all right -- an Iowa woman, now living in California, wants to give California children some idea of what winter life is like when snowfalls give children a chance to build snow houses and make snow men. But, frankly, it seems to me that California children would get a distorted idea, and think that winter consisted of unbroken weeks of snow and ice, which made it possible to stay home from school and build snow houses which could be winter playhouses, equipped with furniture for the whole family.
