ONE SUMMER ON MAJORCA

Two German children are adopted by the owners of a plantation on Majorca. Though Elsie tries her best to make friends with Heiner, his criticism of her ways and his obsession with his remembered environment frustrate her efforts. To Heiner's delight, his old friend Ludwig turns up on Majorca and requests from the children secret protection. An accident in an island cave complicates matters, for Ludwig is taken to a deserted cottage where medical aid is unavailable. Eventually the boy's physical and emotional torment is relieved when his identity is discovered and his imagined guilt in an orphanage robbery disappears with the facts come out. Elsie's stamina and courage through the entire crisis places her in Heiner's favor as he realizes his growing attachment to his adopted sister. The dialogue is too wordy and the plot too diffuse to make an outstanding story, despite the sure appeal of the theme.
