MAGNIFICENT MACRAME

Offering the briefest of beginner instructions--two-color illustrations of basic knots--this likable introduction includes a large share of common macram‚ projects (necklaces, plant holders), a few dispensable ideas, and several quite attractive projects--a rainbow hammock, a door mat, a nice-looking deck chair. The text is adequate but flat and undistinguished (""This rather whimsical project has a personality all of its own""), the photographs and diagrams are helpful, and the instructions are friendly and sequential. Most of the 50 pieces are pleasing enough, but they lack the dash of the projects in Bress' The Craft of Macram‚ (1977).
