Few literary marks, but a life-story deserving tribute is that of Marjorie Lawrence and her obstacle race to become a dramatic soprano of international stature. Australian homestead born and reared, Marjorie determined at a young age to sing professionally, overcame the opposition of her parents, and eventually went from Melbourne to Paris to study. There, with little money, and eventually cut off by her family, she finished her training, made her debut at Monte Carlo, followed through to the Paris Opera and eventually the Met. At the heighth of her success, she met her ""Angel"", Dr. Thomas King, married him and left for Mexico where she came down with infantile paralysis. This follows her obstinate fight not to forfeit her career, the eventual recovery of her voice, the return to the concert stage, and then to opera and the final victory as she sang on her feet again... A dual interest here, musical and inspirational, for a definitely first person story.
