Everything in life seemed humdrum dull to Beverly, from her ironically appropriate nickname ""Mousie"", to her job on the town newspaper. Then Andy Burke made his scintillating appearance on the drab scene with news of a forthcoming cosmetic factory to locate in East Cornish, headed by his aunt, the very chic Simone Le Claire. Although overwhelmed by her new job in the factory, Beverly struggles with feelings of inferiority as she sees herself in relation to her glamorous colleagues. In an attempt to become like them, Beverly almost loses Andy who admires her unpretentious natural quality, but she manages to save her romance with her alleged discovery of the true meaning of beauty. Aside from incorporating some superficial values, Beverly remains essentially the same throughout. Her confidence, far from an inner phenomenon, grows in direct ratio to the attentions of men, hence, her real interest in Andy. In general this is a rambling uneven story.
