THE STONE FIELD

It's ""good Ostenso"" -- better than her recent books, though, in my opinion nothing she has written has come up to her first novel, Wild Geese. To Jo Porte the Ledyard house was a dream house, the Stately Mansion, and friendship with the dream people who lived there, the Ledyards, was to her unthinkable. And yet, once she had met Royce, nobody else seemed to matter. -- There is no particularly significant social or philosophical struggle -- it is simply the love story of two people in different social strata, and suggests, mildly, Time Out of Mind.
