EXPERIMENTS THAT EXPLORE RECYCLING

Ten experiments to help young ecologists understand the need to recycle and to safeguard the environment. For each, the author lists materials and states an inference, hypothesis, procedure, and, in a final chapter, indicates the conclusions. Some projects require extensive outdoor space (a 5'x10' compost area) or extensive time (2 to 4 months to note decomposition); some are inadequately explained (why does soda lime absorb carbon dioxide, thus preventing photosynthesis?) while others seem pointless (burning garbage to show that burning produces smoke and ash). A disappointingly simplistic, didactic ""An Investigate! Book."" Further reading; glossary; index.
