A compendium--substantially revised and updated from the original 1981 edition--of documents, speeches, articles, and book extracts dealing with the Civil War in El Salvador. The 57 entries run the political gamut from Ronald Reagan's 1984 address calling for increased aid to fight Latin American insurgency to a radio broadcast by Radio Liberation and the FMLN, El Salvador's guerrilla army. The editorial introductions, however, are decidedly left-wing--Nixon is ""rabid,"" the State Department ""obsessive""; but guerrilla armies win sympathy and support ""by concerning themselves with the health, education, and social needs of peasants."" So, useful as a guide to the issues, but take the commentary with large doses of salt.
