The canine detective with the ego (and appetite) big as all outdoors puts his talents to work on a movie set. Plagued by a series of mysterious accidents, the owners of Chummy the Wonder Dog (see Sebastian (Super Sleuth) and the Crummy Yummies Caper, 1983) call Sebastian and his sidekick, Police Detective John Jones, to Hollywood. Sebastian is thrilled to be invited-less thrilled when he finds himself doing stunt work for the sappy star, but isn't distracted from his main mission; with the aid of some disguises and judicious eavesdropping, he learns that the film's accountant has promised each of eight investors a 25-percent share of the profits, and plans a quick trip abroad once the film folds. Confronted with the facts, the accountant confesses, and as usual, to Sebastian's resentment, Jones takes all the credit. The portly Poirot's tongue may hang out, but Christian keeps hers firmly in cheek, creating another witty, imaginative adventure.
