THE BOOK ON ANIMAL LIFE

The stuff is there and the Thornton Burgess name will put it over, but actually it is pretty dry and encyclopedic in presentation. From primitive to present day, the background history of animal life is sketched. Then come successive marshalling of facts regarding skeleton structure, covering, adaptation to life, mating, home building, protection, occupation, food, way of life, play, work, sleep. It is material that is needed, and any youngster already interested will find what he wants. Lacks any inspirational quality.
