Premise one: that the Australian family Delaney recuperate from a severe auto accident by camping out on a deserted island. Premise two: that there are three wild horses living on a tiny island nearby. Premise three: two vaguely menacing men share this little haven of isolation but never create a menace. Go on. After several lazily insignificant incidents and tons of grass rowed in the dinghy over to the three horses, the two youngsters effect a post-storm rescue--""...all the power she (Danny) had over animals, the power whose roots sprang from her real love of them, seemed to fold about her like a shield.""--and the horses are tamed. The affected and tedious prose lives down to the plot.
