TOO MANY PETS

Each chapter is actually a complete story, but every one deals with some incident in the Gays' progressive acquisition of pets. The stories are good -- they have child appeal -- they have pace and originality. But again and again the author talks down to her audience. The very use of ""Mother Gay"" and ""Father Gay"" prejudiced me from the start, so that the quality of the story telling had to be good to surmount the initial feeling. ""Father Gay's"" conversion to keeping pets provides the connecting thread.
