THE MYSTERY OF THE WOODS

Mr. Panshaw and his grandson Will live like recluses in their small home on the edge of a dark forest. Closely bounded on three other sides by Mr. F.'s rigid selfmade rules (one of which is never enter the mysterious forest) and directed by their ever-present dictator, the clock, the two live from day to day in a semblance of harmony, threatened at times by Will's questions about the laws. The perpetual motion is abruptly halted by the entrance of a cat who makes up rules of its own which eventually bring about the downfall of the old ways. Mrs. Stolz's clever use of words and phrases form an intriguing little book which is only quiet on the surface. The atmospheric, careful art work is effective and does not jar the mood created here in words.
