ON THE HOUSE

The authors- public relations' representatives for The Diner's Club (a charge account network)- give this a plug, go on to pay their respects to some 400 restaurants in five cities- New York, New Orleans, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. A little about the history of wining and dining in these cities- then as well as now- precedes the individual descriptions of fine restaurants, night clubs- With informal notes on the general tone, decor, habituees and entertainers to be found at each.... One questions whether the occasional out-of-towner will need this kind of book; natives -- who have the money- probably already know where to spend it.
