THE VIKINGS

Passages from the sagas, skillfully chosen for the light they shed on Viking weaponry, homes, religion and seamanship, are accompanied by photographs of artifacts and old manuscripts and (with less reason) 19th and 20th century reconstructions of Viking scenes. There are also excerpts from Anglo-Saxon and Russian chronicles which show the Vikings as they appeared to those they conquered, and the whole project, while skimpy on interpretation, will give casual researchers an efficiently diluted version of the insights they might gain from reading an entire saga.
