THE REAL DREAM

Dreamy Lu Martin spends most of her time in school on cloud nine, and at home, she decides to redecorate her room in white and gold. She also falls in love, for the very first time, with Robert Hogan, a new boy with an old record of delinquency and she pays no attention to some warning remarks about his migratory school career and bad debts. Only when Hogan takes advantage of her kid brother and does him out of some money on the newspaper route with which he gives him an assist, does Lu understand the need for clearer headed, firmer footed realities. The point is not only well taken but well made; the supportive sideplot (about a Junior Activity Club and a live pig as a display at a fair) is less successful; but on the whole this is a pleasant story with a purpose and without irritating adult interference- by either Lu's parents or the author.
