WILLIE WAS DIFFERENT: The Tale of an Ugly Thrushling

A stodgy parable about the ""different"" child with talent. Willie is an oddball thrush--diffident, uninvolved, pigeon-toed--who leaves the family nest for bluer skies. One day he hears spinster Miss Polly fluting and he joins her; thereafter, their duets become increasingly more complex. Inspired to compose his own music, he amazes Smithsonian ornithologists and becomes an overnight wonderbird. But ""the drive to create had subsided, leaving him empty and bored."" Life in a Smithsonian cage is not the answer and by the time he is returned to the wild the trill is gone....Today in the Smithsonian you can find Willie's (memorial) Room--if your spirits are ""rightly tuned.
