PEOPLE POWERS, AN EYEWITNESS HISTORY: The Philippine Revolution of 1986

A photographic and anecdotal record of the fall of the Marcos regime in the Philippines. It contains over 200 photos and compelling personal recollections of many different people, all of whom played a role in this dramatic and effective battle for democracy. Faced with an entrenched dictatorship backed by an impressive military force, the Filipino people used nonviolence and endless demonstrations to achieve their goal. The book captures the desperation and heroism of this effort, a combination of religious, political and military interests. Women and children were on the front lines, people gave flowers to Marcos' soldiers, and through determined unity they surmounted great difficulties. To see the faces of these fighters and read about their exploits is a moving experience. Eventually troops mutinied, Marcos decamped, and the people led by Corazon Aquino triumphed. Better than the media coverage of this event. Uplifting, too.
