It's nice to have a reliable editor like Livingston producing theme-based poetry anthologies. There is a balanced selection in this collection, including poems from famous poets, such as Carl Sandburg and Langston Hughes, some from children's poets like Livingston and Karla Kuskin, some traditional and autograph rhymes, and a few translations from less-familiar cultures. There are nine sections, including ""Lonesome All Alone"" and ""As Happy as Happy Could Be."" Topics range from pets to phone calls to fights. Some of the poems are light, some serious, and a few are broadly humorous, like Lear's ""The Quangle-Wangle's Hat."" The book is in the standard McElderry format, with the poems all printed at the top of the page. There are indexes by first line, author and title, making it easy to find a particular work. A good additional purchase for the poetry shelf.
