I'M WAITING

It's a collection of free verse tidbits about a little girl who coyly reveals her eager anticipation of all the events of the day, including getting up in the morning (""I'm waiting/for someone to come in/ and find me awake!/ Good-bye, bed and pajamas!/ Hello, shoes and socks and clothes!""), mealtimes, naptime, playtime, bathtime, and bedtime. Not much to keep any young child on tenterhooks. The most appealing aspects of the book are the delicate pen-and-ink drawings of the 1930-ish menage.
