This I found more comprehensible for one unversed in the subject. Beginning with William Morris, the author traces the influences that laid the groundwork for modern art and architecture, and showed the close alliance with social reform. With the interest today in Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin and their followers, this book fills a real need for an analysis of the steps leading up to them.
