SILAS SNOBDEN'S OFFICE BOY

Upon my word. . .we'll Sink or Swim in the conviction that this is gen-yew-ine Alger, as Ralph D. Gardner in his foreword affirms. It seems that this ""rattling good"" tale of honest Mother-supporting Frank (whose stepfather is a rough out of Sing Sing) was published in a New York weekly under one of Alger's norm de plume. It moves along right smart for a museum piece -- honor bright! Contemporary illustrations from the 1899 serialization.
