Bertie Wooster once more on his own -- Jeeves shrimping at Herne on holiday -- manages an utter block at his Aunt Dehlia's house party. The new butler is a loony doctor (an alienist) observing the heir of the American Creams for criminal tendencies; Bertie polices his good old headmaster's step-daughter; Bobbie Wickham announces her engagement to Bertie so that Lady Wickham will be in favor of marriage to another; Uncle Travers' fine collection of old silver is a target for one of Bertie's brain (?) waves; and the lurking perils that overcome Bertie necessitate the return of the shimmering, ubiquitous Jeeves for a final mopping up.
