by P. M. Hubbard ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 25, 1967
Most of this story (as in its predecessor, The Holm Oaks) is structured on an anticipatory sense of menace, this time dealing with the tower in a small village ""raised in the name of God and playing hell with everybody near it."" An arcane and primitive torchlight processional sets off the one act of intentional violence while there's an inbred family situation to straighten out as well as a romance. Hubbard, a very agreeable writer, lends an educated touch to the proceedings.
