Two journalists practise their craft with verve in bringing together information on the weird and wonderful world that has come to be labeled ""the far right"". This all-embracing label covers a multitude of groups and ranges from the lunatic fringe still pushing anti-Semitism through the evangelistic persuaders (Billy James Hargis, Dr. Fred Schwarz, George S. Benson) to the curmudgeon, high mogul of the John Birch society, Robert Welch. This frightening family's strength has been vitiated due to squabbles among themselves and these are clearly outlined. There is a valuable chapter that reviews the literature put out by groups on presses seldom covered by the generally accepted responsible reviewing media. Working their documentation in as a running part of the history, the authors provide a genealogy for this kind of political action (Know Nothingism, Coughlin's Christian Front, America First and the McCarthy hangover). They go on to identify the financial backers, the implications of military involvement in the political education of the citizenry and to speculate on the political future. Much of the information covered has hitherto been available in widely scattered periodical literature.
