Exposition followed by description ending with reference to a storm--a placid memoir of a particular lighthouse (still standing) that's likely to snag only the biggest buff. Past the first several pages (""Dangerfield is what the first settlers Called Truro, on Cape Cod. It's a perfect name for this battered part of the American coast . . ."" et al.), interest heightens as we examine the structure and functioning of the lighthouse, including the duties of the keeper and his family; the wreck, confined to a single double-page spread, is just another item of information. Though tastefully executed, it's rather dry for the picture book age, rather slight for the older child.
