The setting is Albuquerque; the time, post first world war; the theme, the conflicts which almost destroy a marriage and which are resolved through the self-sacrificing understanding of the husband. Peter Rush is a doctor -- his wife, Noonie, a girl from Rochester, who has drifted, after two years of marriage, into an unreal life of fear, disdain and guilt. Peter, after some years of this, falls in love with Molly Foster, successful novelist, who has come to Albuquerque -- and, only when Noonie attempts suicide, does he realize that he must break with Mollie for the sake of his wife. A story of conflict followed by a measure of adjustment, of the effect on the child Donald, who senses the tension. Diffuse -- not fuloy integrated.
