A total recall of a year in a Veterans Administration Hospital where Paul Nackett with a ten year record of delinquency and a much longer history of anger and depression and breaks with reality, overcame the rather hopeless prognosis of paranoid schizophrenia. Externalized and verbalized here is the spiral of the sick mind- as moments of delusion and confusion obscure his sense of identity and the basic desire to return to his wife, Marie, and his three children. And the conversations with co-patients, the conferences with Staff, the routine of group therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy help him to restore the balance which is finally reached when he thinks in terms of his family- rather than himself... An account which gives full vent to the hostile, hallucinatory, feverish fluctuation of imbalance, this necessarily reflects the self-absorption of this state to which the literary transcript has added little self-control.... Another ""mind that found itself"" - but will it find a public? Possibly-the families of the afflicted.
