SELECTED WRITINGS

With the exception of the poetry, this is the allimard collection, ceaux , which were chosen by Valery himself, and variously translated. To be commended is the practice followed here of including the original French along with the translations. The variety of translators given interesting opportunity for comparison. Particularly revealing and representative are the Socratic dialogue, Eupalinos, and the sketch of My Faust, aptly suited to the classicism and intellectual appeal of this great Academician. For a limited scholarly and intellectual audience.
