SILVER BELLS AND COCKLE SHELLS

A pleasant volume of verse touches on many subjects from the joy of the seasons to the whimsy of make-believe characters. Many of the poems are based on old legends, others on holiday customs, but the book as a whole reflects Miss Clarke's many and varied interests. Sally Ducksbury's illustrations are quite colorful but they are suited to a simpler, more elementary text. These poems are ideal read-aloud material for third and fourth graders.
