A SURPRISE FOR MOTHER

Fortunately the Ann and Paul pictured inside don't look too much like the sugary ultra-Normal Rockwellish pair featured on the dust jacket. The sweet aftertaste persists, however, as they dutifully take over the house while Mother's in bed with a cold. And while they strike uninteresting poses in the midst of cleaning their rooms, washing dishes, making a salad or cutting flowers, the reader is invited to second-guess their efforts: ""Do you know why Paul is laughing? What did Ann do wrong? . . . Do you know why Ann is laughing? What did Paul do wrong? . . . Do you know what Paul and Ann should do? . . . Do you know? . . . Can you see what Ann did wrong?"" Can you see what the author did wrong? Do you know why we're laughing?
