A newcomer with a story of London's gangster underworld and, pitted against it, a one-man detective of the missing persons' bureau, strictly from Brooklyn, Joe Dust was a bit of a mystery himself but Scotland Yard, aware and seemingly suspicious, gives him plenty of rope and protection of a sort. Dust is on his own tracing the missing war-time wife of a man from the Bronx and the son of that marriage, and heads into double murder, kidnapping and the payoff leaves a feeling of more tales to come. Fast and toughish.
