TORAH AND GOSPEL

This is a collection of the most important papers of the first theological between American Jewish and Catholic scholars. The contributors include Rabbi Graysel and Rev. John B. Sheerin (on historical aspects of Jewish-Christian re), Dr. Samuel Sandmel and Rev. Roland E. Murphy on Biblical scholarship as a means understanding, Rabbi Robert Gordon and Bishop John Wright on freedom of , and Rabbi Jacob B. Agus and Rev. Gerard Sloyan on the meaning of ""Israel"". As all such collections, the reader must be prepared for a disconcerting lack of stylistic and intellectual continuity. The contributions run the gamut from the incisive and polished wit of Rabbi Gordon to the dull solidity of Father Sheerin, from the originality of Father sloyan to the platitudinous pomposities of Bishop Wright. Somewhere between these extremes, and in distinguished company, lie most of the other con. The book will be of interest to those involved in Jewish-Christian rap; to such readers, the book may be presented not only as an exposition of the to such a reconciliation but as a living representation of them.
