ABBREVIATIONS DICTIONARY

In this technological civilization, the extensive -- and often confusing -- use of signs and symbols, abbreviations and alphabetical codes and contractions is a definite trend. This dictionary incorporates these various phases of ""abbreviations"" and should prove a useful tool. One would have to do a careful comparative job to determine in what way this overlaps, in what way it covers new fields when checked against Schwartz' Comprehensive Dictionary of Abbreviations (Crowell-1955) and the older Stephenson Dictionary of Abbreviations (Macmillan). Certainly every library should have one or another of these tools.
