A TREASURY OF THE FAMILIAR

I suppose there are innumerable places where a collection of this sort would be useful -- small communities, where schools have no library and need one source book for recitations, readings, memorizing, and so on; rural centers; poor districts where public library facilities are sparse and inadequately financed, and so on. But the average reader, the average school or library would find this miscellany of poems, hymns, fables, essays, short short stories, speeches, psalms, extracts from the Bible, editorials, letters etc. too disorganized, hit or miss, and -- for the most part -- obvious. Straight merchandise item with a nostalgic flavor, designed for the lowbrow.
