THE DISTANT CLUE

Another Captain Heimrich mystery, this one involves three violent deaths and a tenuous trail that lead back two generations. Ingenious as always, it has a cast of characters that seem inviolate, in the pleasant setting of peaceful Putnam County. Two elderly men have died and if it had stopped there it would have passed as a quarrel between them. But the Captain wanted to know why. And when a big bonfire which nobody saw -- and another murder followed, he searched records until the answer came clear. Easy reading.
