A folksy, blow-by-blow description of the mating, hunting, feeding and breeding goings-on of wild life, and the location and growth of the flowers through one busy year. Divided into monthly sections, the narrative follows the changes in woods, fields and streams, as the author watches from his window and takes walks in the out of doors. At the conclusion of each chapter the sights and sounds of nature which one might expect at that particular time of year are listed. The style is chatty, comradely -- often touched with a light purple, but the author, a naturalist and teacher of science, manages to evoke the bustling lift of nature. The author is from New England, so this should have a regional as well as a general appeal for all lovers of nature.
