LEON BLUM: From Premier to Poet

In spite of the sub-title, the chronology of this biography follows the setual career, from poet to premier. Brief background, education, literary, journalistic, critical career, gradual thrust into politics. Only the last quarter is concerned with his contributions to modern France, but they are so significant that for lack of a better-rounded book on his life, they justify the publication of this volume. It is unfortunate that so vital a figure in world politics should fall into the hands of so unadequate a biographer. Style confused, overwritten, awkward, concealing rather than revealing its subject.
