THE HALF-HAUNTED SALOON

A silly-dill of farce, based on the idea that respectable women are funny in saloons, that the fun is twice as good if you add a multiple-personality ghost of Thorne Smith derivation. Mr. Carey is left Dizzy's Place by his brother Irving to ""loosen"" the family from its stiff shirtedness; Mr. Carey says the saloon is out of bounds for his wife and his three daughters but they carry on, with flowers, sandwiches, puppets shows, and the Eastern Star members. The saloon is haunted by a woman with a tragic past, but it is a psychiatrist, deviled by a triple-personality spirit, who brings things to a full head of steam -- and leads to the discovery that Mr. Carey's brother is not dead and is approving what the saloon has done to his relatives. Funny situation and dialogue in spots, with the pleasant philosophy that the middle class needs shaking up -- even if it is liquor that does it.
