JOHNNY MAY

up one day strong enough for her to destroy Sue Ellen's blue dress, ""pounding it into the ground"" in a rage she finds marvelously relieving. Johnny May, who gets so gassy after eating mustard greens that Grandpa swears ""the north had come back shooting,"" and who puts the devil into folks by pelting them with acorns at the revival meeting, is an earthy enough companion to Me and Jim Luke (KR, 1971). And that ""speculating look"" in Mr. Berry's eyes will raise goosebumps.
